Silent Sound was a promotion held by a major shopping centre in Auckland, New Zealand for their holiday entertainment. The event involved some popular New Zealand music artists performing live inside a sound-proof booth at the centre, and users would use their own phones to listen to the music which was streamed via the centre's complimentary WiFi. They could then either continue to watch the artist perform live, or continue with their shopping while still listening.
This project involved:
• Conceptual and visual design for the original marketing and promotional material
• Designing the phone app UI based on this conceptual design, using Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite

Results and future opportunities
Once the event went live and we were able to do some live testing some key feedback we got was:
• Users were generally easily able to interact with the UI, and follow through with the key objectives of the journey we had mapped out for them.
• Participants however did feel a little 'disconnected' about the event in general, and felt the feeling of connection that comes with live music was lost.
This project was successful in the functional key deliverables we were tasked with; that being the UI design of the app, the creative visual design associated with promoting the event in general, and how it all integrated together.
Customers did like the ability to be able to listen to and watch the band perform, but also being able to continue on with their shopping whilst still listening via their device.
However I feel this is a project where the initial UX design process came from a Marketing idea, which resulted in the 'disconnection' a lot of the participants felt, both the customers and the musicians themselves. A big appeal of live music is the intimacy - the feeling of connection between the performer and the audience, which was lost by having physical boundaries between them.
Upon reflection I would love to be able to fully explore this experience further, and how we could have improved this part of the journey.
